The city centre and the railway station can be reached on foot in 10 minutes (1 km). Recommended day-trip destinations include the Schleswig-Holstein Wattenmeer National Park, the Halligen islands and the Bordelumer Heide nature reserve. The island of Sylt is always worth visiting, as is the Noldemuseum in Seebüll, the town of Husum and the small town of Friedrichstadt which was originally a Dutch settlement.
